Peter has 23 years experience in food and chemical regulation with the Australian government. For 13 years (1994-2006), he was Principal Toxicologist at Food Standards Australia New Zealand, and previously worked with the Office of Chemical Safety within the Department of Health. His early career was in cancer research. He has extensive experience in the safety and regulation of food additives, contaminants, novel foods, natural toxins, environmental chemicals and nutritive substances.
He has also worked extensively in the international arena. He was a member of the Joint (FAO/WHO) Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) for 15 years (1996-2010). He has worked with ILSI Europe and and is currently a scientific advisor to ILSI Souh East Asia Region and assists with risk assessment training in ASEAN countries.
He has published in peer-reviewed journals, written several book chapters and prepared numerous detailed reports for the World Health Organisation.
